Toga SS19

Synonymous with contemporary Western style and Japanese heritage, Yasuko Furuta effortlessly combines practical femininity with statement cuts and prints.

For SS19 TOGA transformed athleisure once again into a progressive vision of the future; where the traditional suit jacket is worn inside out, exposing the silk lining and the garments construction. The elusive title for the show “Sport, Air, Scrunched” is reflective of the languid approach Furuta has to fashion and her non-binary approach to cuts and styles.

Furuta strives to satisfy the tomboyish female who seeks comfort before anything else. The entire collection reflected that; from the slouchy deconstructed suit jackets to the recurring use of trainers worn by the models and their barely-there makeup looks and natural hair.

Statement prints were used with care throughout the collection and were used to balance basic looks. Dark florals were played with and styled against bolder colours, a red asymmetric pair of pleated shorts stood out against the lighter coloured, basic looks.

With a series of looks focused so heavily on a woman so independent and forward thinking, footwear seemed to embody those street style trends. Shoes were designed to be worn, with white foam bases and contrasting black mesh band straps for ultimate support.

Multi-layering was also used in an effort to dress practically. Cycling shorts were only slightly exposed through the additional layers of billowing fabrics coming from organza ruching, oversized trench coats and rain jackets.

The collection oozed a street style appeal that indulges the fashion conscious, each look compiling all that has been trending on the streets into one multi-faceted collection. Furuta designed this collection with the influencer in mind and it is to be worn with confidence.
